Beautiful day for a run!
This morning was a refreshing surprise from the past weeks' weather. I had a beautiful run this morning along Tuttle Cove Lake. The air was a cool 59 degrees F and skies were clear. It was nice to see the sun after a week of rain, clouds, storms, and flooding. I enjoyed running 12 miles along the roads by the lake. The road at the end of Tuttle Cove Park was covered with water in places from the flooding, but I was able to run around it in the grass. Saw lots of birds including white pelicans fishing in the flooded areas. There was even a bald eagle soaring above. Made my day when a young boy about 7 years old riding his bike in the park asked me if I was a kid. I told him I was old enough to be his grandfather. Have a great day and go for a run.

Running outside this week?
With all the rain, storms, and flooding we have had that past few days in Manhattan, KS and predictions for it to continue through this weekend, please put safety first. Please be safe and don't run for at least 30 minutes after the last lightning strike. You shouldn't run outside if you hear thunder or see lightning. Keep in mind that after the storms, drivers may be distracted by the flooding and water from other vehicles covering their windshield. Try to run on sidewalk when ever possible and wear bright colored clothing to increase your visibility. Avoid running at night in the rain. Be safe!
Tip of the day. If your running shoes get wet, try removing the sock liner and stuffing the shoe with news paper. This will help your shoes dry out faster.
